Bio

Iain is an award winning author of novels and short fiction, living in the Northeast of Scotland.

His most recent novel, This Is What You Get, was the awardee of The Scots Language Publication Grant, winner of the Scots Book of the Year 2025 and shortlisted for the Penguin/Random House WriteNow programme.

He is also author of Bluebell Souls, a fusion of historical and science fiction which deals with the horror faced by ordinary people that are swept up in war.

Iain also writes short fiction, which has been published in Pushing Out the Boat, North East Scotland’s biennial magazine of new writing.

Iain joined the army at the age of sixteen and was deployed in the first Gulf War. Since discharge, he has been employed as a chef, labourer, scaffy and oilrig worker. After going back into education and working his way through university he became an animator at a multimedia company, which included scriptwriting and storyboarding.

Iain is a student of English Literature.
